A visit to Matt the Podiatrist…

So I had my bio-mechanical assessment today with Matt the
podiatrist of “Feet Feet“.
This is a quick summary of
what I learnt.
1.
My left hip is twisted (out of alignment)
2.
As a result my left leg is shorter than my right
– a specific daily stretch has been recommended to assist and assess whether the
hip is causing my left leg to be shorter than my right or whether my left leg
is actually shorter
3.
My feet are unusually flexible having a wider
range of movement in them than most – this isn’t overly helping.
4.
My iliotibial bands are tight and a specific
daily stretch has been recommended
5.
My quads are tight and a specific daily stretch
has been recommended
6.
I have very flat feet
7.
My footwear is of good quality and has been
protecting the injury
So Matt sent me off to do 4 weeks stretching whilst he
orders me up hand made insoles.  I’m delighted to report that the pain has lessened over the last fortnight however I’m told that without the right stretching and supportive footwear and insoles
the problem will keep occurring.
I pleased to say that I’m happy with Matt’s work, thankfully
I get a sense that he know’s what he’s talking about and that I can place my faith in him.  This has been sadly lacking in other
professionals I have previously visited.
With the amount of money I’m throwing at this that certainly provides a
certain peace of mind.
So what does all this mean for cycling… as yet I’m not
overly clear.  I’ll need an insole, my
bike professionally fitted and perhaps a little physio if this pain doesn’t go
away.  Only time will tell but for now I’m happy with where I have got to in the process.   Onwards and upwards…

Hope it works out. If not, sex change and do the next Runher with me. Bit drastic do you think? 😉
