The first 6 months seen me lose 2 stone but I lost my focus somewhere last July and if I’m honest I’ve been treading water ever since. Thankfully I’ve managed not to lose the plot all together but I’ve now twice been down to seventeen and a half stone and twice returned to eighteen and a half.
I knew it was happening but I seemed to forget the vital ingredients of what made the last year so successful. Calorie counting and cross training. Somewhere in the summer I stopped swimming and hillwalking. I did at the time take up jogging but by week three my knees walked out on strike. I then solely focused on cycling at the expense of my other exercise arenas and to be honest I think I’ve suffered through injuries as a result. Cross training was bringing my whole body balanced strength. Simply cycling whilst being my first love and passion seems to have strengthened some areas and left others untouched and weakened. As they say if you don’t use it you lose it.
To be honest I’m frustrated at the moment with yet more holiday weight gain and some new injuries. I’m only thankful that it’s a new year and I can use it to draw a line in the sand and start again. At the moment my hips and lower back are painful and I wouldn’t be surprised if it has something to do with the lack of cross training and core strength exercises.
So its back to swimming I go and hopefully if it thaws out soon I’ll get back into the hills for some walking.
I should have lost 4 stone in 2009 and failed. I should be 16 stone now and heading for 14. Instead I’m 18 and a half. I now plan to be under 16 for the summer and 14 for Christmas 2010. Let’s push on with a sharper focus and more intense determination.
